City Council Minutes – June 12, 2023

ST LUCAS COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

June 12, 2023 7:00 p.m. in person or via Microsoft Teams upon request

The regular meeting of the St. Lucas City Council was held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Nick Busta presiding. Council members present at the Community Center were Franzen, Schmitt, Huinker, Svendsen and Goerend. Guests present were Chad Wurzer, Brenda Suckow, Paul Dietzenbach and Louis Smith.

A motion by Huinker, seconded by Franzen to open the Public Hearing on the Intent to Sell Public Property. All ayes, motion passed. Comments were heard, no action was taken at this time. At 7:05pm a motion by Schmitt and seconded by Franzen to close Public Hearing and go into regular session. All ayes, motion passed.

  1. A motion by Goerend, second by Franzen to accept the posted agenda. All ayes, so moved.
  2. A motion by Huinker, second by Schmitt to approve the minutes from the May 8th All ayes, so moved.
  3. A motion by Huinker, seconded by Goerend to approve the May 2023 Treasurer’s report. All ayes, so moved.
  4. A motion by Goerend, second by Franzen to approve the list of claims. All ayes, so moved.
  5. Recycling bin site has been completed and bins have been placed. A light has been temporarily installed at the Franzen moved to have Chris Lauer cut the curb along the driveway. Schmitt seconded. All aye, so moved.
  6. Waiting on contractor for the Rural St and Quail Rd Item tabled.
  7. Waiting for the contractor, hopefully work will begin in the next two weeks. Item tabled.
  8. Franzen moved to approve tobacco permits for Kuennen’s Tap and Liquor and M&M Convenience Store. All aye, motion passed.
  9. Updated 20E Agreement between townships and fire department was tabled.
  10. Nomination papers for November’s election must be filed between August 28th and September 21st Contact city hall or county auditors’ office for more information.
  11. Fire Department Updates -The air packs are in service. August 3rd is the pork loin supper, will be serving 5-Spm. St Lucas will be hosting the Agist 10th county fire meeting. A committee has been put together to begin pricing a new pumper truck.
  12. Edmund’s Park – A lot of projects are being finished up! Shrubs have been delivered and all benches have been installed. All six picnic tables have been paid for. Plumbing and electrical for the shelter is almost finished and the water filling station will be installed soon. Ceiling tin has been installed and was donated by Dave Goerend and Cody Bouska – Hawkeye Metal.
  13. Fun Day/Community Updates – Fun Day’s sign up sheet is on Facebook! The Henry Langreck Memorial Ride will be Saturday morning. In addition to can koozies, St Lucas hat will be for sale at Fun Days. There are still some golf cart raffle tickets Contact Nick if interested. Pothole have been filled in and the end of Canada St will be looked at to see if it need additional asphalt applied. Discussed possible advertising on the digital community sign, item tabled.

Discussion was held regarding loose animals and pet waste left around town. City ordinance requires pets to be leashed and pet waste to be picked up. Please be responsible and clean up after your pets!

A motion by Schmitt second by Goerend to adjourn at 7:43 pm. All ayes, so moved. The next scheduled council meeting is July 10, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Lucas Community Hall.
